Understanding the 17c Insurance Formula

Initially established in the state of Georgia (State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. v. Mabry), the 17c formula has become the national standard for auto insurers. It starts by taking a maximum cap of 10% of the vehicle's pre-accident value (the Base Loss), then scales it down using multipliers for damage severity (0.00 to 1.00) and vehicle mileage (0.00 to 1.00).
